Sailor Moon: Role Reversal

Sometimes…when you’re the klutzy heroine among a group of friends, and your “guardian angel” has to do everything for you, it’s time you relinquish your role and pass it on to someone who’s more responsible. Serena has to find out the hard way of what it is to be the sidekick.

In this image, we see our antagonist Luna who is Serena’s guide throughout the Sailor Moon cartoon and who must fulfill the responsibility to get Serena to realize life isn’t all about Sailor V games, junk food, comics and boyz. But for Luna, it’s a difficult job and she succeeds in accomplishing her given assignment. In this image, we see Luna in her human form and Serena in the form of an unappreciated chibi. Serena wonders to herself: Whose cartoon is this? It’s called "Sailor Moon!” A moral we are known to it by its referring:Sailor Says! This is the message I was trying to get across in this image. As always in any image, the hero is presented with the most recognition while the sidekick is seen behind. It’s a simple cliché that’s been done many times and this is another example of what it’s like for the hero to play the sidekick.

I want to share a few things in terms of the quality of this image. This image was heavily inspired by a previous post because of the style of it. I did note in that post would create another image similar to its style. The text on the left is Japanese calligraphy that states a phrase. The image itself wasn’t an easy task, as I got a grasp of realization: I hate adding details to hair! Saiyan hair and anime hairstyles are by far the most complicated task one can take on. I had to do this twice to get it correct. The first attempt, I tried to pull a fast one with her hair making it flat black and that plan completely backfired. But when you want things done, you’ll see hat whatever task you have on your hands will get accomplished!
